“Are
Chiropractors real doctors?”
Dear Dr. Lynne
Kavulich,
I have a friend
who raves about how her Chiropractor can help anything from
back pain to allergies. She says I should see one also, but
I have my doubts. Are Chiropractors real doctors?
Pete - Largo FL
Dear Pete,
Yes, chiropractors
are most definitely real doctors. They earn a Doctorate of
Chiropratic degree. Chiropractors are required to complete a
minimum of two to four years of undergraduate college work
in addition to four years post-graduate chiropractic
studies. After they pass national and state exams they are
licensed to practice as required by state laws.
A doctor of
chiropractic is a primary care physician and does not
prescribe medicine or perform surgery. D. C.’s may refer you
to a medical doctor if they determine that you need another
specialist. The Doctor of Chiropractic practices with the
certainty that the body has innate healing potential that
can be greatly disturbed by vertebral subluxations. These
subluxations affect the nervous system interfering with
mental and physical well being. The purpose of he
chiropractic adjustment is to correct these subluxations.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lynne Kavulich
